This picture is not only beautiful but a wonderful reminder of my childhood. We always had lots of swallows and songbirds in our garden and they always make me smile. Even now, songbirds are always around us. Beautiful little companions.

An old weather lore is: "If February is dry and cold 🥶, heat will soon follow in spring". (Ist der Februar trocken und kalt, kommt im März die Hitze bald.)
* * *
And a poem I found about March:
Never mind March, we know
You're not really mad
Or angry or bad.
You're only blowing the winter away
To get the world ready
For April and May.
My favourite books last month:
Lanschot, Reinier van "We are Europe" (Dutch: Wij zijn Europa: een nieuw Europees verhaal) - 2024
and
Chevalier, Tracy "The Glassmaker" - 2024
A non-fiction about Europe and the European Community, and a fictional account about living in Venice through the centuries.

My German word this month is:
Augenweide
this translates into:
A Feast for the Eyes
but word for word:
Eye Pasture
I think this is a good word to make us look forward to the next month, the beginning of spring. You might say Eye Candy but Augenweide means so much more.

I've checked my February pictures and I found that February seems to be a month where we play board games constantly. We play all year round but I guess it is due to the weather that we play more of them in February. So, here is a collage of some of the games we played during the last couple of weeks. Do you know any of these? Have you played any of them?
The names of the games are: verkopft, krazyWords, Wie Arsch auf Eimer (it's a perfect match) and Hitster.

💐 I wish you all a very Happy March! 💐

I saw eine Augenweide last night.....the sunset! It was so brilliant and varied I kept driving to continue admiring it.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful example of an Augenweide, Stephen.
DeleteLove the little bird watercolor! Happy March. :D
ReplyDeleteSo do I, Lark. As beautiful as all the pictures by the family Koebsch.
DeleteI really like the word Augenweide. German has SO many great words. I love the way you kinda SMOOSH words together to make something new. We kind of do that... but you guys are the experts! [lol]
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kitten. Yes, when it comes to word smashes, we definitely are the experts. I love how everyone knows immediately what you want to say, even foreigners. Not like the English who use all sorts of foreign words, especially for illnesses. Was a tough learning curve for me.
DeleteI had a vague idea how difficult English can be, but getting to know a few foreign exchange students @ Uni really brought it home. SO much of the English language is just plain weird!
DeleteDefinitely, Kitten. You can often tell by their mistakes what their mother tongue might be.
DeleteAnd the worst bit: most English people cannot explain you the mistake, they know it is wrong and how it should be but no idea why. Makes it tough if you want to become fluent.
And, please, tell them if they mispronounce something or make another mistake. Believe me, we are more than grateful. I used to take people aside and told them in person, not in front of others.
Thank you, and I hope March will be a great month for you. I have a busy week, but then things will quiet down a little bit. Planning for my renovation of the office. I have big plans and ideas. I just hope they come out as good as I think they will.
ReplyDeleteThe reading is rather planned these days, and I am happy with that. I got a lot of new book for the sales. Sadly, one always want to read the new books that come in. What about the other 200 unread books on my shelves? That seems to be an eternal problems.
Same here, Lisbeth. I saw a meme one day about the old books complaining that you always buy and then read the new books. I think that's a general problem with us. Can't be helped. We'll have to come back as ghosts one day and finish them.
DeleteGood luck with the office renovation, sounds exciting. Send a picture when it's done?
Happy March!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eva. Danke schön.
DeleteGern geschehen!
