Happy June to all my Friends and Readers
New Calendar picture with this
beautiful watercolour painting by Hanka Koebsch
Hanka and Frank say to this picture:
"Passend für den internationalen Kindertag und die ersten Sommertage haben wir Hankas Kinder Aquarell gewählt."
"To mark International Children’s Day and the first days of summer, we chose Hanka’s children’s watercolor."
This is an absolutely beautiful painting. We can all dream with the little girl and her bubbles.

May had some weird weather. We didn't have any rain until the very end, everything was getting too dry and the farmers started to lament. We felt like it was summer already and had some lovely days outside, walking, putting on the barbecue, and an outing with my brothers and their wives. We visited the sensory gardens of a spice producing and importing company. They have 500 different types of plants in gardens from around the world. Lovely place.

And I was really happy to meet a blog friend, Eva, who happened to pass through the area on her visit to her family in Germany. It was so lovely to get to know her and find out that she was just as nice as on her blog. We both said we were exactly as whe had imagined each other.

This month, I want to introduce you to a German saying:
"Die Kirche im Dorf lassen"
This means literally "to keep the church in the village".
Processions from the Catholic churches used to marched through the village. But if the village was too small, they marched "with the church around the village." So, leaving the church in the village meant not being so pompous and exaggerated.

As it is Jane Austen year, I am re-reading a book by her every other month. This month, it was "Mansfield Park" - 1814 (The Motherhood and Jane Austen). It is not her most popular one and hardly anyone mentions it as their favourite by Jane Austen. But it is definitely a great book.

I really like Mansfield Park...I am a fan of Fanny. :D I just finished reading Northanger Abbey, which is one of my favs. Though I love all of Jane Austen's books. I'm hoping to reread Sense and Sensibility this summer. Happy June!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Lark. I absolutely love Mansfield Park, though a lot of people put that last. My last one would definitely be Northanger Abbey, my favourite Persuasion. But I am going to re-read them all. Next one - in July - will be Emma.
DeleteWhat a lovely May, so nice to meet on-line friends in the flesh. I still remember the nice time we had when we passed by you some years ago. I still hope you will come to Sweden (when I am at home) and to meet you here in Malmö.
ReplyDeleteHappy June! It will be a very busy month for me, with mostly good things. I hope you also have a few cards up your sleeve for this summer month.
Awww, thanks, Lisbeth. I felt the same. And I still hope that you might come by again one day. I loved Malmö when we were there but I doubt we'll go on any lengthy excursion soon.
DeleteI haven't been making cards for a while, stamping is not good at the moment. If you mean theatre tickets or other plans, there is always a show going nearby.
The sensory gardens look VERY Spanish! I think with so many varieties of flowers and spices it both looked and smelled lovely...! [grin]
ReplyDeleteThey have all sorts of nationalities there, Kitten. Here you see South America (Chile), Greece, Africa and the Wedding Park. They also had a Japanese park, a Spanish and an Italian one. So, yes, plenty of spices, plenty of flowers, just beautiful.
DeleteThe gardens look lovely. Eleanor and I would love that. We have a fantastic garden here, that contains so many types of gardens within it. When Eleanor was younger, her favorite was the train garden, which was numerous sets of tracks, trains, and buildings that wind their way through the trees. And we always had to hike to the top of the Japanese Garden.
ReplyDeleteHappy June!
That sounds nice, Sarah. We used to have a world garden where we lived before and always enjoyed going there, also with the boys. But they had international gardens. No train gardens. But there was dinosaur garden with a carousel, that was also nice for the kids.
