Rutherfurd, Edward "London - The Novel" - 1997
I'm a huge fan of England and London is
one of my favourite cities ever. As usual, the author describes the history of
this fantastic town through the lives of about half a dozen different
families.
The fictional families also stem from all sorts of backgrounds, you have
fishers and priests, merchantes and dock workers, maids and mistresses.

When I have the 'space' to run chunkier books, Rutherford is definitely on my list. It's such a great way to get the 'feel' for a place.
ReplyDeleteI was sure I answered this comment, Kitten, but Blogger seems to have swallowed it. Not even in the spam section where I sometimes find my own comments.
DeleteAnd you are totally right, he is a great author who really makes you get to know a place.
This made me look at my throwback review of this book. So fun to re-read because I read it just before my trip to London in 2014: http://www.joyweesemoll.com/2014/09/04/london-by-edward-rutherfurd-bookreview/
