I found this on one of the blogs I follow, Books are the New Black who found it at One Book More. It was originally created by Reviews from the Stacks, and the idea is to spell the month using the first letter of book titles.
July: Set in a fantasy world or fictional placeI am not the biggest fan of fantasy books, so I had a hard time finding books for this challenge. Y is always a problem, and I am sorry that I have to use "Your guide ..." again, I have used it before but there is no other of my books that starts with this letter and fits the topic. Midsomer is definitely a fictional place.

It is a lot more a Grimm's fairy tale with a little bit of Victoriana mixed in than a JRR Tolkien kind of fantasy novel. It is also more an alternate history book with a lot of links to non-existing literature. It almost feels like a Dickens novel. Quite entertaining, actually.U
Less a novel than a "little red book" that states rules for a dream country. L
Lewis, C.S. "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" - 1950
This almost reminded me of fairy tales. They usually show a lot about a people's character, their values and myths.

Johnson, Maureen; Cooper, Jay "Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village" - 2021
If, like me, you like to watch the British crime series "Midsomer Murders", the title jumps right into your eyes. This books tell you what to avoid: the vicar, high places, low places, dark places, any places, empty houses, bridges and tunnels, any kind of events, village, sports or otherwise, any kind of family gatherings etc. etc. So, stay away!

Happy Reading!

I'm watching the TV adaptation of 'Jonathan Strange' at the moment. I must have only seen the first few episodes as I don't remember what I'm watching presently. I remember *really* liking the book - but it was a HUGE one (for me). Took me around a month to finish I think!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am sure I needed that long, Kitten. I always read several books at the same time, one of them is a large one but I often have read ten others before I finish the longest.
DeleteBut I am glad you enjoyed it nevertheless. Because it is a great book.
Well, it is a fictional village, so yeah... this works. I'm also not a fantasy person.
ReplyDeleteI was glad it said fictional villages, as well, Davida, otherwise I would have had to find another way out. And I really liked your idea.
Deletewell done! I have read your U and L, but as I usually consider more my latest reads, I didn't think of these obvious ones.
ReplyDeleteIf it were just the latest reads, I'd never get these finished, Emma. But it's nice that you can do it. And it's always nice to see other ideas.
DeleteWell done with Utopia, I've read that too but didn't think of it for mine!
ReplyDelete*pout* I've done it again, posted my comment as anonymous! Sorry!!
DeleteBlame it on the blogs, Lisa. They just don't want to work together. I am glad when I can comment at all.
