Wordless Wednesday ~ Moin

  1. Is it a word young people use a lot these days? Because I never learned it in my many years of German at school, a few decades ago

    1. This is the regular greeting used in Northern Germany instead of saying "Guten Tag" or "Hallo." In can be used any time of day. Sometimes people say Moin-Moin.

    2. @Emma. I knew someone was going to ask but it's Wordless Wednesday, so I left out the explanation. Yes, Eva is right, it's the regular greeting in Northern Germany. And if you say "Hallo" or "Guten Tag", you are not a Northerner. ;)

@Eva. Thanks for your comment. Now I know who my newest follower is. Unfortunately, Blogger shows you the name of the people who follow you and who else they follow but no link to their page. Grrrr.

As to your last comment, "Moin Moin" is already considered "babbling". LOL

    3. Oh, and I meant to mention, this was in Bremen. They built this last year and have "decorated" it in the meantime. We haven't been back, so one day I will take a new picture.

    4. Blogger used to link automatically to the blogs of followers, but not anymore. My parents and some of my siblings live close to Bremen :). In their area, people do tend to say the double Moin Moin.

    5. Oh, lovely. We don't live far, either, just about an hour to get there.
But yes, people do say "Moin Moin". It's more a joke by the Northerners about themselves. Because, officially, we are not big talkers. Though whoever started that rumour, I have no idea.
And yes, Blogger has changed a lot of little things that were very helpful. Aaargh!

  2. That's interesting to know. Consider me babbling. Moin-moin.
