Forgetting a Book Title

A lot of people never even try to remember the title of a book they read because they see it as entertainment for today and will not read it again.

Even though I agree with the entertainment, if a book is really good, I like to talk about it to friends, and sometimes I like to read it again. So, when I forget the title of a book I read ages ago, it nags at me, I brood over it, I have to think again and again, what was that title again? I remember reading a book about a convict who was sentenced to go to Australia, I believe with his family, and he starts a new life there, and no, it is not "The Secret River" by Kate Grenville or "For the Term of His Natural Life" by Markus Clarke, although the subject is similar.

Anyway, I have asked friends, I have asked people in internet chat rooms, nobody could find the title. It really bugs me that I didn't find the title.

Does this happen to you?

  2. I certainly will though I don't have much hope, I've been looking for this one for a long time.

  3. I once tracked down my elementary school librarian and got her to take me to the library in my old elementary in search of a book I read in the 4th grade! I couldn't remember the name and she didn't know it from my description but we did find it! The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles

  4. That sounds like a great book, Dorothy. Unfortunately, in my case, I don't even remember where I was when I read the book. I moved around quite a bit and I see, you did, too. I always visit the blogs of people who comment on mine and I have the feeling, we live in the same area. Some of your pictures look veeeeery familiar.
Would be nice to hear more from you and maybe talk book one day.

    1. Marianne, I contacted you about the book club but since I work during the day I won't be able to join. You sent me a link to your blog. So yes, we live veeeeery close to each other! I hope you find the book you're seeking. I know how much it nagged at me for so many years and what a relief it was to finally track it down. You have to love librarians!

  5. Aaaah, I see. I didn't get it that it was you. So sorry about the book club, I'm sure you would have liked it. Hope you'll find an evening one. I will definitely let you know if I hear of one.
I have been looking for that book for ages, I even have Australian friends who recommended about half a dozen books that could be it but none of them was the right one. Still, it was nice getting to talk to you this way. Oh, and I love librarians, too. Who wouldn't? Have a good day.

    1. No worries. Dorothy is just my blogging name. I'm only here a few more months (until the new CDC is done) and then I'll be PCSing. Hopefully there will be an evening or weekend book club at my next station.

Have you tried contacting a librarian? Perhaps one at a big library?

  6. And it's a nice blogging name. Sorry to hear you're leaving again already. That's what I hate most about living here. If you don't find a book club at your new place, maybe you would like to start one? I did and it's been running for twelve years now.

I have several librarian friends. And a lot of Australians who have recommended some great Australian books to me, maybe I am not supposed to find this book.
