August used to be Sextilis in Latin, the sixth month of the year, but the Romans added two months and named this one after Emperor Augustus.
We don't have a holiday in Germany or the Netherlands in this month, but the Belgians celebrate Mary's Assumption on 15 August.

I think it is inviting us to spend a day at the seaside.
Like the painting, a favorite subject of mine and I've painted more than a few boat paintings.

Happy August to you Marianne. No holiday here either but the birthdays of myself and many family members and friends happen in August.
ReplyDeleteSame here, Judy, both my boys were born in August and so is my mother and my nephew. Mum was always proud that all her three grandsons were born in "her" month.

You are not too late. It is on the 18th. I used to have a birth day, then I had birthday week, now I like to have birthday month!
