"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". It was created because they are particularly fond of lists. It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.
Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.
This week's topic is a Books I'd Like to Re-Read
As part of the commemoration of Jane Austen's 250th birthday, the Classics Club has started a #Reading Austen project. We are reading a book by her every other month. But I've mentioned that several times in the last couple of months and I will not bore you with that again. If you would like to see my latest post about her books, you can find it here: Alphabet Authors ~ A is for Austen.
I will therefore, add some of my all-time favourite books other than by Jane Austen which I might re-read next year. A lot of them are the first books I read by some of my favourite authors that I haven't read again since the first time.
Eliot, George "Middlemarch" - 1871-72
Falcones, Ildefonso "Cathedral of the Sea" (E: La catedral del mar) - 2008
Ghosh, Amitav "The Glass Palace" - 2000

I was surprised that I had re-read many of the first books I read by a lot of my favourite authors. So, I might choose the second book the next time.
Although, having said that, I might have read one or two of the books again before.
But this will probably take me longer than a year since I have so many books on my TBR pile.

TIme, Pam? What is that? LOL
DeleteThanks for your visit and for leaving me your link.
I hope someone does a group read of Middlemarch next year. It's a book I want to reread, too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should start one, Deb.
DeleteSo many people have talked about rereading Jane Austen this week. I hope you all get to do it and then maybe even discuss it afterwards. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's because it's the Jane Austen year, Lydia. I've done several posts about her already this year, so I thought I'd not include her in this list. Thanks for your visit.
DeleteI reread Northanger Abbey earlier this year and hope to reread Sense & Sensibility. And I love Middlemarch, Shadow of the Wind, and My Name is Red. I could happily reread any of those. :D
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club, Lark. So, you are the third person who wants to re-read Middlemarch. As Deb suggested, maybe we should do a group read.
DeleteI would love to re-read Shadow of the Wind so that I can continue with the rest of the books in that series. Part of me is worried that my feelings about it will change but I hope to love it just as much, if not more :) I hoe you enjoy all of these on re-read!
ReplyDeleteOooh, you really should, Dini. If you enjoyed Shadow of the Wind, you will like all of his books, especially those concerning the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. Enjoy.
DeleteThe Poisonwood Bible has been on my reread list in the past... And, yes, I'd love to still reread it! Great choices, Marianne.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa. It was my first book by Barbara Kingsolver and is still one of my favourites by her, though I loved everything else by her, as well.
DeleteIt is so hard to prioritize re-reading when we have extensive TBRs, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, Cindy. But I am glad I did this list here, so I can see what I want to concentrate on the next time I need a sure read to get out of a slump.
DeleteGood stuff! I don't re-read but I do wonder what I'd think of the Poisonwood Bible today. I read it when it came out.
ReplyDeleteThat is part of the joy of re-reading, Lisa. Sometimes, our taste changes, our experience definitely does. So, it's often almost as reading a new book.
DeleteAll of these sound like great reads and rereads.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kel. As I mentioned, I only chose some that really deserve it.
DeleteI should reread Shadow of the Wind. I loved that book!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a great choice, Marg. And since he is not going to write new books, we might as well get back to his old ones.
DeleteI read WE WERE THE MULVANEYS a long time ago, but that's it from your list. I really need to read some of these books for the first time!
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
