Happy February!

Happy February to all my friends and readers

New Calendar picture with this
beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch

"Endlich Frühling"
"Finally Spring"

February is the shortest month of the year.
Exactly four weeks and therefore sometimes doesn't have a single full moon.
The next time this will happen in 2037.

It's the last month of the meteorological winter and in many Catholic regions we celebrate carnival which used to be the driving out of the winter.
Today it's the beginning of lent where we can eat and drink however much we want before it's "good bye to meat" (Latin: carne vale).

The flower of the month is the primrose (primula vulgaris),
maybe because it flowers in early spring.

It stands for modesty, distinction, and virtue.

It's a very popular pretty little plant that needs little attention and is one of the first messengers that winter is over.

Its flowers as well as its leaves are edible and they used to be a remedy for colds.

In the language of flowers, it stands for early youth.

Enjoy this month with this beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch.

  1. My favorite February special day is Groundhog Day, that predictor of spring. I love primroses. I wonder if peacocks eat those. I should plant some this year and see.
    Happy February!

  2. Haha, yes, that's a good one. We often maange to watch the movie on that day, love it. But for us, it's The Presentation of Jesus, same day, different meaning. LOL.

In a lot of parts of Germany, February is Carnival month, unless it's really late.

I have no idea whether peacocks eat primroses. Will be interesting to find out, I guess.

    Have a great month.
