Happy April

Happy April to all my friends and readers

New Calendar picture with this
beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch

"Kirschblütenfest"
"Cherry Blossom Feast"

April showers bring forth May flowers. I think we all know that saying. And we also all know that there usually is quite a bit of rain in April.
So, let's hope we'll have nice flowers in May.

April used to have just 29 days, so that might have resulted in fewer rainy days. Ha! I doubt it.

The Saxons used to call it The Anglo-Saxons called April ēastre-monaþ,
ēastre resulting in our word for Easter.

Daylight Savings Time begins - although, the EU has voted to abolish this.
I hope they put it into effect as planned.

The flower of the month is the Sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) which stands for departure, probably because winter is gone?
And because it blooms constantly, it stood for lasting pleasure in
Victorian England.

It's a climbing plant, and my parents used to grow it all along their garden fence. So many beautiful colours and the scent is just delicious.

Enjoy this month with this beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch.

  1. The artwork and your comments are a breath of fresh air. As I gaze out my home office window the trees are tipped with the faintest green. Could it be? Yes, I am sure it is. We will soon be covered with pollen. OMG!! Did I say that? lol. Actually it doesn't bother me and this is my favorite time of year. We have a very short spring in the Mid-South so I have to delay many inside activities and be out as much as possible. Off to book club today. It's a good Monday!

    1. Thank you so much, Shirley, that means a lot to me. I keep forgetting about pollen since, luckily, I don't suffer from those kind of allergies, I have enough on my plate as it is.

However, so lovely to hear from you. I love both autumn and spring the same, well, maybe autumn even a little better since it is the end of the dreaded summer.

Enjoy your book club tonight (what are you reading) and enjoy your spring, especially if it's so short. If you want to prolong it, you can always come visit. ;)

      Have a good day,
      Marianne

  3. So do I, cherry blossoms are just beatiful. OUrs have almost finished blooming. But then there are new flowers, so no problem ...

I'm glad you had a nice birthday, the quiet ones are often the best, don't you think? I guessed from the song you posted that we are almost the same age, I'm not surprised.

And I missed posting on your "Books you loved" last month, I'll try to do that as soon as possible this month, promised. Too much going on in March.

    Have a good day,
    Marianne

    1. I know that most of my North American friends are eager for it to arrive. We've had a lovely March already but then, we live in a mild climate anyway.

      Happy April!
