Book Quotes of the Week

"Reading gives one something to think about other than one’s self." Tom Bissell

"If you have never said 'Excuse me' to a parking meter or bashed your shins on a fireplug, you are
probably wasting too much valuable reading time." Sherri Chasin Calvo

"We know that books are not a way of letting someone else think in our place: On the contrary, they are machines that provoke further thought." Umberto Eco

"Nothing is worth reading that does not require an alert mind." Charles Dudley Warner

"The food we eat feeds our body but the novels we read feed our mind." N.N.

[If anyone can tell me the originator of this quote, I'd be very thankful and would happily include the name.]

  1. That Tom Bissell quote didn't work for me in May. I read books that did make me think about myself, though even that was useful to me and my writing.

    1. I think it tells us that it makes us think we are not that important after all. We get to know the world better and consider others more. At least that was my take on it.

I had a hard time this week deciding which one was my favourite, I think it's Umberto Eco, though.

      Talk to you soon,

  2. It's sad the number of things I've walked into or tripped over while reading or thinking about what I've been reading.

    1. That's what I love about quotes. Sometimes I think, wow, that's exactly what I always thought. Other times, why didn't I think of that before. In any case, it makes us think and that is the main thing.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
