Top Ten Tuesday ~ Bookish Characters: Readers

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is
Bookish Characters (these could be readers, writers, authors, librarians, professors, etc.)

Of course, I had to choose readers. Some of my favourite books are about readers, some of my favourite book characters are readers.

Meet my reading characters:

Jo March in
Alcott, Louisa May "Little Women Series" - 1868-86

Elizabeth Bennett in
Austen, Jane "Pride & Prejudice" - 1813 (The Motherhood and Jane Austen)

The Little Seamstress in
Dai, Sijie "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" (F: Balzac et la Petite Tailleuse Chinoise) - 2002

Meggie Folchart in
Funke, Cornelia "Inkheart" (GE: Tintenherz) - 2003

Helene Hanff in
Hanff, Helene "84 Charing Cross Road"
- 1970

Azar Nafisi in
Nafisi, Azar "Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books" - 2003

Daniel Sempere in
Ruiz Zafón, Carlos "The Shadow of the Wind" (E: La sombra del viento - El cementerio de los libros olvidados #1) - 2001

Juliet Asthon in
Shaffer, Mary Ann & Barrows, Annie "The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society" - 2008

Francie Nolan in
Smith, Betty "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" - 1943

Liesel Meminger in
Zusak, Markus "The Book Thief" - 2005

They are all loveable in their own way but I think we can connect to them so well because they love reading as much as we do.

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

    1. Thanks, Rue. I believe she is the favourite of many. I find it tough to choose my favourite, they all have a little something of a reader in them that appeals to me.

    1. Oh, wow. I don't think that has ever happened that someone has read all ten of my TTT books. That is fantastic. I'm not surprised it's you, though. Thanks, Deb.

    1. Thanks, Lydia. Yes, I absolutely love her. I'm also from a family of four children but I was the eldest and only had brothers. I always wished for sisters. That's probably what makes her so great for me (and Elizabeth Bennett, of course, though I'd rather have Jo's sisters, LOL).

  5. The only book on your list I haven't read is Inkheart. I recently read for the first time 84 Charing Cross Road. Wasn't Helene Hanff a character in the truest since of the word. I enjoyed it very much. I totally misread the prompt. You did it right, I didn't but I did make a fun-to-explore list. Check it out at Characters in Real Life

    1. Haha, yes, very well observed, Anne. She was a great character indeed.

I only read "Inkheart" because my sons were so great fantasy readers and it is a good book, even if you are not interested in that genre, at all. I even contemplated reading the sequels.

And it doesn't matter that you misread the prompt. I think that is the beauty of it that we all come with different ideas. I just saw a picture with brides on covers, absolutely loved it. Now I'm looking forward to seeing what you came up with.

  7. What a fantastic list! I have Pride and Prejudice, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and The Book Thief on my list this too this week - The Book Thief is a popular one! I really want to read 84 Charing Cross Road, it sounds great! I'll have to make it a priority and get myself a copy!

    Happy TTT!

    1. Thanks, Zoë, a lot of people chose readers as their topic and so we all have the best ones on there, I guess. So I'm not surprised to find a few repeated ones. And, other than some Tuesdays, these are all books that I really loved.

I hope you will get "84 Charing Cross Road" soon and enjoy it as much as I did. There is a sequel, "The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street", just as good.

    2. Haha, I totally understand, Sarah. Having said that, her final choice isn't bad either, I do like Gabriel Byrne, as well. A lot.
