Happy December!

Happy December to all my friends and readers

New Calendar picture with this
beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch

"Schlittenfahrt"
"Sleigh Ride"

Who doesn't like the Good Old Days? Or at least some nice pictures of them. If you are wrapped up nicely and drive through some snow-covered countryside ..

My German word for the month is

Streicheleinheit

As usual with these kind of German words, two of them have merged. Streicheln is a tender stroke, Einheit a unit. You might say you cannot count caressing but there you have it, in German we can. We often use it in the form of, I need my stroking unit for today.

I hope you will all get enough of them this month.

My picture of the month goes with one of my favourite events of the month was that we had a Thanksgiving get-together with my brothers and their families. We are not American but had many American colleagues and friends during our working life and picked it up then and there. So grateful for that.

November has been kind to us weather-wise. Very mild and lovely.
I hope the same for all of you.

  1. Where did the time go? I find it seems to go faster these days for some odd reason. Lovely art. A good meal shared with others is always good, thanksgiving or not.

    Happy December to you.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. I know, Lissa. Months seem to fly by as fast as days used to. But time is always short when you're having fun, I keep telling myself just that.
      Happy December.

  2. So good that you could enjoy some family time. I can't believe it is already December. I have just been four days in Aarhus, Denmark and it was great. Museums, walking in the old city and good eating.
    Happy December.

    1. Time shared with family and friends is always fantastic, Lisbeth. I remember Aarhus from a visit quite a few years ago, very pretty city and lots of stuff to see. Glad you could enjoy it.
      Have a great month.

  3. November was VERY mild here. We've only had a bit of proper 'winter' weather the last few days with mist, fog and a chill in the air.

    1. Same here, Kitten. Far too mild but that's climate change for us.
I wish you a happy month.

  4. I often think how modern technology, especially waterproof boots and gloves, would have made winter more survivable to people in the past. Did you read (in translation) the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder?

    1. I've been thinking that a lot. And yes, I have read The Little House books and they were among the first I read in English. The stories only got known in Germany through the TV series with Michael Landon whom we all only knew as "Little Joe" from "Bonanza".

Funny you should ask about them because I just added them to my TTT Christmas list. I always think about winter and Christmas in connection with the stories. "The Long Winter" is probably my favourite and I love how Laura talks about Christmas in her life.
