Top Ten Tuesday ~ Top Ten Books I wish I read as a kid

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish".

There is no official Top Ten Tuesday anymore and I haven't published any of the lists for ages. But a few of the bloggers still carry on and since I haven't even done half of the topics, I shall also do so from time to time.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

The last time I picked Top Ten Childhood Favourites, this time it's:
Top Ten Books I wish I read as a kid

A lot of those books did not exist, yet, when I was a child but others I just didn't come across or they were not translated into German at the time. However, I enjoyed all of them when reading them later, either to or with my boys or by myself.
Alcott, Louisa May "Little Women" (Series)
Civardi, Anne; Cartwright, Stephen "Things People Do" (Series)
Deary, Terry "Horrible Histories" (Series)
Ende, Michael "The Neverending Story" (Die unendliche Geschichte)
Handford, Martin "Where's Wally?" (Series)
Hodgson Burnett, Frances "The Secret Garden"
Ingalls Wilder, Laura "Little House Books" (Series)
MacLachlan, Patricia "Sarah, Plain & Tall" (Series)
Montgomery, L.M. (Lucy Maud) "Anne of Green Gables" (Series)
Scarry, Richard "What Do People Do All Day" (Series)

    1. No problem,Judy. I read this when it first was published Like many of the books I mentioned, it wasn't even written when I was a child.

Anyway, even though I'm usually not a fan of fantasy, I really liked it. A great story. The movie was awful. I had heard it and didn't really want to watch it but my sister-in-law came to visit and she had to occupy her son while being there, so we were more or less forced to. It was even worse than I imagined.

    3. Definitely a good idea. It was just not the time, yet, to make it into a film which you will understand once you read the book. It would be different today.

Michael Ende found the movie so terrible that he asked for his name to be removed from it.

    1. Thanks, Rue. There are is so much children's literature around and I enjoyed every bit of it when reading them with my boys. And then there are others who are a little more girly, so I had to read them by myself. LOL.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked my list. Thanks for responding. Will visit yours.

  3. I was only able to find the first three Anne of Green Gables books when I was a kid, so I read the rest as an adult. You're not alone there. :)

Thanks for stopping by my post earlier.

    1. I hadn't even heard of some of them when I grew up. But I'm glad I found them in the end.

No problem, I always like to see your posts, thanks for coming back here, as well.

    1. One of the reasons, I was already a grown-up when Martin Handford started writing them. There are so many different kind of books around now for kids. But we got all the Where's Wally books for our boys and enjoyed every single one of them.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  5. I loved the Horrible Histories books when I was a kid! Definitely contributed to the fact that I did a History degree!

    1. My boys both loved history and I believe that Horrible Histories was partly responsible for it. I hated history as a child (love it now), wish I would have had them.

Thanks for your visit. Will check out your page now.

    1. Thanks. They were not that well-known in Germany back then although there was that Little House tv series when I was a little older. I would have devoured the stories, as well, I am sure.

      Anyway, thanks for your visit.

  7. I think I can remember my mom reading me both "The Secret Garden" and "Little House Books" Series. I also know I read "Sarah, Plain & Tall" and at least one of "Anne of Green Gables". They were definitely magical!

    1. How lovely. As I just said to Susan ^^, they were not that well-known in Germany. Such a shame, I would have loved them.
