Top Five Tuesday was originally created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, but is now hosted by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads. To participate, link your post back to Meeghan’s blog or leave a comment on her weekly post. I found this on Davida's Page @ The Chocolate Lady.

This week’s topic is Villains. Meeghan says: "Those dastardly villains that are so bad they’re good is our topic for today. Who are your top 5 bad guys (or girls or folx) that make you want to scream?"
I'm not a big reader of crime stories but there is always a villain in some of the books, so no problem to find five of them.
Collins, Wilkie "The Woman in White" - 1859
Count Fosco
Dickens, Charles "David Copperfield" - 1850Uriah Heep - I think he is my favourite villain
Follett, Ken "The Pillars of the Earth" (Kingsbridge #1) - 1989Lord William Hamleigh, Bishop Waleran Bigod
Ruiz Zafón, Carlos "The Shadow of the Wind" (E: La sombra del viento - El cementerio de los libros olvidados #1) - 2001Julian Carax
Shakespeare, William "Much Ado About Nothing" - 1598/99Don John

Don't we all like a villain from time to time? I have read all except Dickens and Shakespeare.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a good story without a villain, Lisbeth? David Copperfield is my favourite by Dickens, I really recommend it.
DeleteI have read a few Dickens but am not so fascinated with his writings. Maybe because they are 'dragged' on due to initial feuilletons in the papers. But, so many people like his books. I do want to read A Tale of Two Cities though.
DeleteThat is also great, one of his two historical books, the better one of the two, might I say.
DeleteDon John is SUCH a good villain. I love Much Ado, and the movie adaptation was nearly perfect. That doesn't happen often.
ReplyDeleteThat's because Kenneth Branagh is such a great director and he is one of the greatest Shakespeare experts so he can choose among the best actors and pick those that fit the characters best. One of my favourite movies.
DeleteI haven't read the books you've mentioned. However, Cathy Ames from East of Eden by John Steinbeck is my favorite female villain!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Lisa. I just realized all my villains are mail. Maybe I understand the female ones better. LOL
