Top Ten Tuesday ~ Top Books that Made me Laugh Out Loud

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish".

It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud

There are a lot of books that make me laugh. Some make me laugh because I don't want ot cry. But we don't talk about them. There are dozens of authors that make me laugh. Some of them, I've read lots of their books, others maybe just one or two, mainly because they have only written one or two.

If you want to see all the funny books I've read and reviewd, I refer you to my label "Humour". In the pictures, I try to show my favourite book (in case they have not all been translated, the best of those translated)
Rita Mae Brown

Bill Byson

Roald Dahl (his adult stories, though the youth ones can be pretty funny, as well)

Nora Ephron

René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo "Asterix the Gaul" (French: Astérix le Gaulois) (the whole series)

Wladimir Kaminer (Travel to Trulala and Russian Disco are the only ones translated into English but I've read more of his books)

Hape Kerkeling

Ephraim Kishon

Mary Scott

P.G. Wodehouse

  1. Ooh, Roald Dahl is a great pick! I loved his stories when I was a kid.

    1. I'm sure you did. I never knew him as a child but my sons loved his stories. I got to know him when they made a series of his adult stories, very dark British humour, I loved it.

Then, when I started working in Brussels, one of my colleagues had worked for him before. We were both surprised, she, that I only knew his adult stories, I, that he was a famous children's author. LOL

I am sure you would love his adult stories, as well. I highly recommend them.

    1. He is one of my favourite authors. I've read all his books except for one: "The Palace under the Alps and Over 200 Other Unusual, Unspoiled and Infrequently Visited Spots in 16 European Countries" because, unfortunately, it is out of print and the only copy available at the South American river company costs more than 200 Euros. ☹️

Thanks, unknown reader, it was nice talking to you. Enjoy every Bryson book. And others, as well.

  3. I can see why the Best of Roald Dahl would be laugh out loud. I just recently read his Revolting Rhymes and it was wonderful. Also agree on the Asterix, Wodehouse and Bryson whole-heartedly. The others, now, those I have to check out. Thanks and Happy TTT!

    1. Thanks, Lex, looks like we have a similar kind of humour. Try Nora Ephron, she's (well, was, unfortunately) hilarious.

    3. I'd be very much surprised if anyone who loved her movies wouldn't love her books. She has such a great sense of humour.

  6. Dahl was a childhood favorite, and I keep reading Bryson even though he's sometimes a bit of a grump. I haven't gotten to his European book, though!

    1. Yes, he is a grump but that's what makes his books even more hilarious, at least in my eyes. But it's a matter of taste, of course. Anyway, I think he has just the right mixtures between British and American kind of humour.

      Thanks for visiting, Stephen.

  9. I have read Bill and Nora. I often find good laughs in many of the books I read. Sign of a smart person, when they can make me laugh.

    1. Definitely a good sign, Judy. I always say comedians are some of the smartest people.

Have a good weekend, hopefully with a lot of laughs.

  10. I have a love/hate relationship with Bryson. Sometimes I like him and sometimes he is insufferable!

    1. I've heard that before. I do love him but that doesn't mean I don't understand the people who have a problem with his sense of humour from time to time.

Anyway, thanks for your visit and comment.
