Angelou, Maya "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" - 1969
The author has led a very difficult life - at least in her youth. And she tells us all about it in this book. Racism, poverty, growing up with different caregivers, child abuse, early pregnancy.

I read this one a few years ago, though I have to admit, I prefer Angelou's amazing poetry.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lark. I'm not a huge fan of poetry but I know she writes great poems.
DeleteAre you planning to read the rest of her memoirs, too? I thought this was the best one, but she does tell an interesting story or two about how she became a mom in one of the later books. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lydia. I have also read "Mom & Me & Mom" and would love to read more of her. But, you know the problem, so many books, so little time ...
