Such a wonderful story about a guy who was helped by the members of a tiny village in Pakistan and decided to build them a school (see Three Cups of Tea.: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time).
We thought this was even better than the first book, maybe because he had a different co-writer or he was getting further with his project, whatever, it was a very pleasurable read.
We discussed this in our international book club in April 2011.

I love this whole idea! Education is so important...especially for girls.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, Lark. I loved both of his books, how he first came to the village and how he decided to help the people. Great stories.
DeleteI loved the book, but then there was a scandal about it.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember, he may have made up some stories, and also money issues, not paying taxes or something.
True, Emma. There was a scandal initiated by Jon Krakauer who is the sort of writer to "alert" people of scandals. Greg Mortenson said himself in the book that he is not good with accountancy and that he let other people do the job. And there were some inaccuracies. But, in my opinion, that shouldn't divert from the great job Greg Mortenson has done here.
DeleteI read his Three cups of tea which I liked. I did not know he has written so many books.
ReplyDeleteOnly those two, Lisbeth. Then there was some upheaval about the company he founded in order to do all this and nobody heard anything about him since. Shame.
