Book Quotes of the Week

"When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world you fear what he might say." George R. R. Martin, A Clash of Kings
So very true. People should think about that more, especially in times like these.

"A part of learning is done through reading, and the other part, which is likely more important, is talking with bright minds from different fields." Neil Shen
Also very true. And reading what bright minds from different fields have to say. Believe in the experts!

"If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave." Mo Willems, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs
If only it were always that easy.

  1. Ha! I did find myself in the wrong story the other day and I left. Then yesterday I went back. I might leave again though.

    1. If it's a book, it's a little easier. I thought he (or she?) thought about real life. That's when it's not always easy. But yes, even with books ... LOL

      Have a good weekend.

  2. We love Mo Willems! He is one of our most fave authors. And his quote is perfect. For a long time I could not DNF books because I was always thinking, "It could get better"...but it often does not and I have really learned to trust my gut.

    1. Honestly, I never heard of him. But I'm not surprised, he only started publishing books when my kids had outgrown that age.

As I said to Judy ^^, I thought about life in general and there it is not as easy to leave when you're in the wrong story. As to books, yes, I try to just let go of the books I don't like. There are not as many any more since I know better what I want. But sometimes it's still hard.

    2. I had not thought of it as applying to life but you are right - that would be a super hard thing to do, especially not knowing what would come next once you left.

Mo Willems is wonderful and his stories are hilarious and sweet and we adore them. Even though Eleanor is way beyond them in terms of reading level now, she will still sit with them and giggle constantly at the silliness of Elephant and Piggie. I do, too.

    3. I thought about life first because I was in a situation in my life once where I wanted to get out but couldn't without hurting others.

Some books are written for children but if you can't enjoy them as adults, they will not be half as successful. I have enjoyed many of the children's books I read with my boys and miss them now.
