Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all my friends and readers

New Calendar picture with this
beautiful watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch

"Liebeserklärung an …. (Rostock)"
"Declaration of love to …. (Rostock)
"

Hanka and Frank say to this picture:
Das Bild ist eine Liebeserklärung an die vielen wunderschönen Augenblicke mit und ohne Sonnenuntergang mit Hanka und eine Liebeserklärung an die Stadt Rostock, in der wir so viele schöne Momente verbrinden konnten.

The picture is a declaration of love to the many wonderful moments with and without sunset with Hanka and a declaration of love to the city of Rostock, where we were able to spend so many beautiful moments.

Another great watercolour painting by Frank Koebsch. Enjoy!

We meant to visit Rostock several times already but didn't manage so far. Yet, I hope. It seems to be a beautiful city, is situated at the Baltic Sea, that's always a plus.

***

November was rainy, December even more so. But that was alright. Most of the activities at the moment take place indoors anyway, concerts, visits with friends. Just a visit to the Christmas market was outdoors and we were pretty lucky with that.

It was nice having our sons visit us for Christmas, even though their trip here was a catastrophe. The train system in Germany is just awful. It took one of them twelve hours (the second time that happened this year) instead of five. And only because we picked him up halfway.

***

Do you bake cookies for Christmas? It's a definite must in our house. So, here are a few to share. If you want some real ones, you must come to our house.

    1. Thank you, Simon. These are very typical German cookies, not as prettily decorated as the American ones (or the Czech and Polish ones, for example) but I always get told they taste very good.
      Happy New Year.

  2. Happy New Year! Such yummy cookies :). I have never been to Rostock, in fact, I have never really been to the former East (except East-Berlin). But my grandmother's mother is from the Rostock area and I do have distant relatives there.

    1. Thanks, Eva. Yours looked great, so I am sure you didn't miss anything. But if you're ever in the area ....
I have been to the former East, but only after reunification. My father was in Leipzig in hospital for almost a year and we visited him in the holidays. And we've crossed the former border lots of times whenever we were in the area.

    2. There were only three hospitals in Germany who did this kind of surgery and Leipzig was the first one that could offer it.

  3. Happy New Year! How wonderful to celebrate Christmas with your children. Such a treat. Speaking of railroads, we should not mention Sweden ... Rostock should be a very nice city. Martin visited recently. We often take the ferry Trelleborg - Rostock to go between Sweden and Austria. Most of the time we only drive through, but once he stay there overnight, and said it was beautiful. I think it is similar to Lübeck, Stralsund and Wismar. All the best for 2024.

    1. Thanks, Lisbeth. Happy New Year to you, too.
We were on the ferry Travemünde-Rostock-Trelleborg and back when we visited Sweden this year. Only, we didn't know before that we would go that way and even stop in Rostock, we might have booked differently and visited the city then. And yes, you are right, it could be similar to all those cities, being a Hanse town. Mind you, I have only been to Lübeck from the ones you mentioned.
And I didn't know Sweden had problems with their railways, as well. Looks like it's the same everywhere. Sigh.
