Top Ten Tuesday ~ April Showers ~ Gardens and Flowers

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". It was created because they are particularly fond of lists. It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

I haven't done any TTT for a while. But that doesn't mean I want to give it up altogether. I will come back from time to time.

This week, our topic is April Showers - Pick your own title for this one to reflect the direction you choose to go with this prompt (books with rain on the cover/in the title, that have rainstorms in the story, or that have anything to do with rain)

I have done rain and storms last year under "weather events". But I like the idea with rain. A while ago, I mentioned that I have always lived in an area where it rains a lot: Northern Germany, Belgium, England, The Netherlands. We have a lot of rain and therefore we have a lot of flowers and vegetables and it is always green.

So, i thought rather than talking about the negative parts of April and rain, I will list the positive ones, gardens and flowers.

Buck, Pearl S. "Peony" - 1948
Burnett, Frances Hodgson "The Secret Garden" - 1911
Dash, Mike "Tulipomania" - 2000
Diffenbaugh, Vanessa "The Language of Flowers" - 2011
Leapman, Michael "The Ingenious Mr Fairchild: The Forgotten Father of the Flower Garden" - 2001
Marini, Lorenzo "The Man of the Tulips" (IT: L'uomo dei tulipani) - 2002
Pavord, Anna "The Tulip" - 2004
Titchmarsh, Alan "Trowel and Error" - 2002
Turner, Nancy E. "The Star Garden" - 2017
Wilde, Oscar "The Nightingale and the Rose" - 1891

I found lots and lots of books about tulips. Not so surprising, since I lived in the Netherlands and, as a member of an international book club, we would always try to read something about our host country, and often those were stories that included tulips. But I only chose some that were stories about them.

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

    1. Thanks, Lydia. That is very kind of you.
I have not been able to blog as much as I used to, some challenges just fell under the radar. And often, I had the impression, I've done this topic lots of times before. Still, I've earmarked a few from the next ones.
Peony was my first book by Pearl S. Buck and I loved it so much that I read lots and lots of her other stories. It is still my favourite, probably because Peony introduced me to a wonderful author.

    1. Thank you, Stephen. I often have to find a twist to not come up with the same books again and again.

  9. Welcome back, Marianne! I've been a bit MIA as well. I'm trying to get back into the groove :)

I do love the rain and cold, but I admit I got a little tired of it in the U.K. over the last two weeks. It's already too warm here in Arizona, though. Spring flowers are always fun to watch out for. Great list.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

    1. Thanks, Susan. Yes, you've been rather quiet lately.
We had a lot of rain this winter, ours is not much different from the UK. So I can imagine that you got tired of it, not being used to our weather.
Looking forward to reading your list.

  10. I love Tulips so all in for books abut them. Tulipomania is a fantastic tale and real. I have read Tulip Fever, but not these two: The Man of the Tulips and The Tulip. Will have to look for them.

    1. I have read Tulip Fever, as well, great book. I just didn't mention it because I had it in my lists so often before.
Same as you, Lisbeth, I love tulips. My favourite flowers are peonies and hydrangeas but tulips certainly belong on my list.
