Book Quotes of the Week

"It is only a novel… or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best-chosen language." Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

Says one of the greatest authors of all time.

"A good book was its own brand of magic." Kerri Maniscalo

Definitely true. I'm not into fantasy books but I agree that all books are magical.

"With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?" Oscar Wilde

All I need there is freedom and books.

  1. Great quotes as always. I am curious to know why you don't like to read fantasy.

    1. Thanks, Judy. Same reason why I'm not into science fiction. I'm too logical. I don't believe in ghosts or witches or whatever and I can't enjoy reading about it. With sci-fi, and a little with fantasy, as well, I always miss the continuity. So many contradictions. I always explain it with the film "Independence Day". Those aliens are smart, really smart. They know where the major cities are on Earth (at least in the Western world). But then they are so stupid to wait until those minor earthlings have found a way to destroy them. Or, let's say they claim there is no gravity on a planet but then something falls down ... I'm sure you get what I mean.

Anyway, thanks for your visit, as always.

  2. Of course that quote had to be from Northanger Abbey, a novel about (very enthusiastic) novel lovers :) I love the quotes you've chosen and yes, good books are magic !

    1. Well, Susan, she is one of my favourite authors and she's said so much about reading and writing, all true.

    2. Thanks, Greg, yes, I love them all, as well.
And thanks, Sarah, it's one of the best part of the week, chosing some new quotes.

    3. I used to do something similar on Mondays, but with bookish memes. And I also used to do a 'would you rather?" on Wednesday where readers could choose between two book nooks, and explain why they chose one over the other. Putting the posts together was always so fun because there are so many wonderful ones to choose from.

    4. What a shame we didn't "know" each other back then, Sarah. But I can always go back and check. LOL

I always worry there might not be any more quotes to choose from in future but I doubt it. This will go on forever and ever.
