Top Ten Tuesday ~ 2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is 2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To. I don't have that many 2021 Releases on my TBR pile since I was really good at my resolution not to buy too many books but here are a few that I either received lately as a gift or that are still on my wishlist (mostly because I wait for the paperback to be published):

Adams, Sara Nisha "The Reading List" - 2021
Doerr, Anthony "Cloud Cuckoo Land"- 2021 (Goodreads)
Lawson, Mary "A Town Called Solace" - 2021
Michaelidis, Alex "The Maidens" - 2021
(Goodreads)

Michel, Sascha; Hosemann, Jürgen (Hrsg./Ed.) "Weihnachtsgeschichten für Glückliche Stunden" [Christmas Stories for Happy Hours] - 2021
Orth, Stephan "Couchsurfing in Saudi-Arabien: Meine Reise durch ein Land zwischen Mittelalter und Zukunft" [Couchsurfing in Saudi Arabia: My Journey Through a Country Between the Middle Ages and the Future] - 2021

Powers, Richard "Bewilderment" - 2021 (Goodreads)
Rutherfurd, Edward "China" - 2021

    1. So do I, Ellie. I only read one book by Richard Powers so far, The Overstory. And I really loved it. Let's hope we'll both enjoy the next one.

    1. Oh, thanks, Deb. I have all three of them on my wishlist because I loved a previous book by the author. So, now I'm looking forward to them even more.

  3. Couchsurfing in Saudi-Arabien sounds really interesting! I'm also very curious about The Maidens and Harmel Shuffle as I've enjoyed the writing of both authors previously. I hope you enjoy these books whenever you get to them, Marianne! :)

    1. It does, Dini. I have read three Couchsurfing books by Stephan Orth. He was already in China, Iran and Russia. They were all great, so I am sure this one will be just as good.
I haven't read a book by Alex Michaelidis before but got the book as a present, so I'm looking forward to it. I have read both Colson Whitehead's books, so I am also looking to get "Harlem Shuffle".

  4. I haven't read any of these either. CLOUD CUCKOO LAND is one I want to get to. I hadn't heard of A TOWN CALLED SOLACE before, but that sounds like another one I would like. I hope you enjoy all these when you get to them.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Great, Aymee, we can all tell each other whether we liked it. I think everyone is keen on it because they loved his first book so much, All the Light We Cannot See. Thanks for your link.

  7. The Reading List is one that I read around Christmas, and loved it. I listened to the audiobook, and there are dual narrators. The story pulls at the heartstrings a bit.

    1. Thanks, Pam, I heard that from so many people that I definitely want to read it. And as I said to Lark ^^, I received it as a gift. I can't listen to audiobooks but I'm sure having two narrators helps at times.

  13. Some great choices here!
I want to read Powers' previous book before this one, yes I'm late.
I received The Maidens, without requesting it, but haven't opened it yet! Cautious

    1. Oh dear, Emma. Any special reason for that?

I know Richard Powers has written a few books before this one. Any special reason you want to read another one first before this one?

  14. Believe it or not, but I have actually read three of them (well, reading the third). The Reading List - I liked it for its sweetness and positive approach in spite of sad things happening. The Maidens - ok, some discrepancies in the story, and not so good as his first. Cloud Cuckoo Land is a difficult and heavy book. Takes time to read, several story lines and characters. I have to wait until I have finished to be able to say if I like it or not. As always with Doerr, wonderful language and characterisation.

    1. Haha, Lisbeth, I do believe it because two of them came from you. LOL

I have only read one book by Anthony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See) but really loved it. And the way you describe it with several story lines and characters, that's something I really like, so I think I might take to this one, as well. Thanks.

    2. All the Light.. is a wonderful book. Definitely, his best. I have also read About Alice, which I liked. The new one is quite different, very ambitious and not always easy to read. A review will come soon, since I finally finished it the other day.

    3. As you know, Lisbeth, I like books like that. And I don't mind if it takes a little longer since I always read more than one book at the same time.
