Top Ten ... Twenty Tuesday ~ Books I Found Through Other Bloggers

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is Books I Loved So Much I Had to Get a Copy for My Personal Library (Maybe you received an ARC or borrowed from a friend/the library and loved it so much you wanted your own! Or maybe you read it in one format and wanted another format, like you read it in ebook and wanted a physical copy to display on your shelves or you read it the paperback and would love to re-read it on audio. Change this TTT title to fit your post best!)

I have a lot of books that I bought in order to read them, not many that I borrowed first from the library. I've lived abroad most of my life and it wasn't easy for a long time to get foreign books, either English ones in Germany or German ones in Britain, definitely not in the library. So, I often had no choice but buying the books if I wanted to read them.

Therefore, I have to twist the topic again. Lory from Entering the Enchanted Castle had a post the other day that I thought would fit this one. So, here we go:

Of course, I didn't like all of the books recommended through blogs, after all, we all have different tastes. But I am always grateful to try different kinds of literature. If you want to know whether I liked it or not, click on the link.

And then there are hundreds of books that I found through internet friends, internet book clubs, chat groups, none of them I would have found without the internet.

I already have a list of books that I found through friends (see here).

Now, I have read many more books that I found through discussing them online but these were the first I could identify.

Did you find any interesting books on the internet? Have you found some through my blog?

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

  1. Hi there Marianne! That's what I love about blogging the most - all the great book recommendations. Like you say, we don't always like all of them, because we all have different tastes, but I have read a few treasures through blog recommendations.

A Gentleman in Moscow is on my list as well today.

    Have a wonderful Tuesday!

    1. Thanks, Mareli. My favourite part of blogging. I started this because I was in an international book club where members changed all the time because they only came to the country for a couple of years. So, someone suggested, I write this blog so they all can see what we are reading now. That was a long time ago, I don't live there anymore, the book club has been dissolved, and I'm still here. LOL

    1. Thanks, Lydia. It definitely was. And I probably would not have picked it up by myself.

  3. I'm sure I have books on my TBR from other bloggers, but I'm not sure which ones. But that's one of the wonderful things about being a blogger, getting exposed to so many different books.

    1. You are right, Pam. I am sure this list could have been three times as long, or five times, I have no idea. But these are the ones where I remember talking about it on the blog before I picked them up myself.

  4. If I kept better track of things (sigh!) I'd probably discover that most of the books I've read and loved have been discovered from other book bloggers.

    1. Don't worry about that, Deb. Your blogposts are fantastic, no matter whether you remember these things. I love lists, though this one had to come from memory. But when reading a book, I often remember what I talked about with someone, that's how I "found" the books on this list.

  5. I love your change in prompt and picks! There are so many books I read or are on my TBR after being recommended by book bloggers and Booktubers. That's one of the reasons I love this community.

    1. Well, Rae, it wasn't exactly my own idea, as I've mentioned. We pick up so much stuff from other bloggers. What on earth did we do before the internet? LOL

  6. I remember reading Levithan's "Every Day" and I thought the concept of the story was very interesting!

Hope you'll visit my Top Ten Tuesday list!

    1. It definitely was, Lectrice. I like books that are slightly different. This one certainly was.

    2. I agree.

By the way, great topic, Marianne. The majority of the books on my TBR is are books that I've discovered through other bloggers. One of the many reasons why book blogging is so fun!

    3. I wouldn't say it's the majority but it certainly is a huge part And probably still a lot more than what "normal" readers have on their TBR piles. LOL. Thanks, Lectrice.

  8. What a lovely list. I love finding out about new books through blogs and Instagram - I then get excited when I see them in the shops - although a lot of the time, as I'm in the UK, the covers are different which momentarily throws me!

    Have a great week!

    1. Oh, I know, Emily. What I find worse is when they change the title and you have a different one in the US than in the UK. And don't even get me started on translated titles!!!

    1. I remember talking about that, Lark. It is a remarkable book that I cannot recommend often enough.

And don't worry, I did this list by what I remember, could have been a lot longer.

  12. I read 'Becoming Jane Eyre' but kind of forgotten about it but I do remember it was good.

I thought 'The martian' could have a better ending but I mostly enjoyed it.

I have found books reading blogs though I think not many people had the same taste in books as me so there weren't that many books I found. Some bloggers are just so persuasive that it make me reads books I never thought I would read.

    Have a lovely day.

My list: Reasons why I would purchase books for my library

    1. I know, Lissa. Sometimes we forget the book but when it was a good one (like this one), we still remember the message or information.

I understand your point about The Martian, yes, it could have been different but I guess the majority wouldn't have liked that.

And I think reading books we might not have otherwise is a good thing. I came to that through the book clubs but find that other bloggers can be even more intriguing. I know a lot of people here who read different books but there usually are a few we have in common and we start from that. And we can always talk about the pleasure of reading, we all have that in common.

  13. I can't even count how many books (great and otherwise) that I've read because I saw them featured on a favorite blog. I should be better about noting who recommended them so I can go back and thank them. After all, there's nothing better than knowing that someone loved a book you encouraged them to read!

    Happy TTT!

    1. That's true, Susan. And yes, I could do better in that respect, as well. I remember from a lot of those books that they were recommended to me on a blog but not always who the blogger was.

    1. Definitely, Greg, talking to other bloggers and getting the idea for a new book is fantastic. Mind you, my TBR pile is sky high because of that. LOL

  15. Of these, I have only read Gentleman in Moscow, which was for an IRL book club. But I've seen recs for lots of the others floating around. Which ones would you recommend, or which were your favorites, I wonder? I think I have to at least read The Martian, because it's become such a part of the cultural zeitqeist.

    1. That's a tough question, Lory. My favourite among this list would probably be A Gentleman in Moscow but since you've read that already, I have to think of another one. Yes, I loved The Martian. And I just noticed that the other ones are all quite different, well, some of them are a tad on the "easy" side which isn't much my thing but they were mostly a pleasure to read.

  17. I see some good recommendations there. This is the great thing about blogging, you get tips here and there. Some books tend to turn up again and again, almost insisting that you have to read them. For now 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' turns up everywhere. I just have to read it. Have you?

    1. Thanks, Anon (I guess you didn't intend to comment anonymously, the blogsites should get their act together!)
Should you read this, no, I have not The Seven Husbands ... but there is a big hype about it at the moment, so I'm not sure whether I want to. LOL
