"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish".
It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.
Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to
share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of
other bloggers who share their lists here.
This week, our topic is Favorite Bookstores OR Bookstores I’d Love to Visit (The UK celebrated National Bookshop Day on October 1)
I don't have the luxury of many bookstores in the area and when I get to visit a town, I usually visit at least three of their bookshops. So, I thought I'd present some books that take place in a bookshop - or a library. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Bythell, Shaun "Confessions of a Bookseller" - 2019
- "The Diary of a Bookseller" - 2017
Campbell, Jen "The Bookshop Book" - 2014
Fitzgerald, Penelope "The Bookshop" - 1978
Funke, Cornelia "Inkheart" (GE: Tintenherz) - 2003
Hanff, Helene "84 Charing Cross Road" + "The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street" - 1970 + 1973
Rice, Ronald (ed.) "My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read, and Shop" - 2012
Ruiz Zafón, Carlos "The Shadow of the Wind" (E: La sombra del viento - El cementerio de los libros olvidados #1) - 2001
Seierstad, Åsne "The Bookseller of Kabul" (NO: Bokhandleren i Kabul) - 2003
I hope I will see many blogs that present interesting bookshops or books about bookshops.
I think that there's a very special pleasure in reading books about books or libraries - real or imagined. Like wearing an extra layer on a chilly day to feel especially cozy warm.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a nice comparison, Kitten. Yes, books do make us feel warm and cozy, no matter what they are about. Thanks.
DeleteBookseller of Kabul is one I've been meaning to read. Sounds promising!
ReplyDeleteYes, Anon, it is an interesting book though I have read better ones about Afghanistan.
DeleteI did Bookshop Books for this week's TTT, too! :D The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend made my list, but I forgot about Shadow of the Wind.
ReplyDeleteI know. Isn't that funny? The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favourite books ever and I believe it has been in my TTT most of all the books I mentioned. So, no surprise it was here.
DeleteI read 'The bookshop book' and find many amazing bookshops but I'll probably never visit them. Though now I have forgotten most of them but I still recall a bookstore where a man was carrying around his baby in his bookstore or something like that - families and bookstores seems to be good combination.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
Definitely, Lissa. Children cannot be exposed to books early enough, imho. Have a lovely day, as well.
DeleteLove the twist you made on the theme. I have read several of these books, Shadow of the Wind is among my all time favorites! Will add the ones I didn't know about to my TBR for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eswee. I usually try to stay close to the subject but I seem to change it more often than not. LOL.
DeleteYes, Shadow of the Wind is also one of my favourite books ever, including the rest of the series.
I also found a lot of books about bookshops this week that I hadn't even heard about since I'm not the only one who has twisted the topic this way.
This is such a lovely list.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in an area that didn’t have many bookstores either. It was always a treat to travel to other places that did have them.
Agree, Lydia, it is even more a special treat if you can't get there often. I mean, we have a lovely little bookshop in our small town and they can get any (German) book for me within a day but we all know that is not the same, right?
DeleteI've not read any of these, but there are a couple that are on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2022/10/04/top-ten-tuesday-388/
I know, Jo, that happens to me all the time. You will get there one day. I'm sure you have read quite a few nice books about bookshops that I don't know.
DeleteNice assortment of books. Someone else did something similar today too (can't remember who, LOL).
ReplyDeleteThat would probably be Lark, Cindy. I thought it was nice to see she had the same idea.
DeleteI wish I'd done this type of topic for today too. Especially since I don't visit many bookstores outside of a B&N. Still, there's always the hope of visiting some fun book stores. :)
ReplyDeleteThere will be a similar topic in future where you can come back to the idea, Rissi. We keep changing the subject all the time when the one that is suggested doesn't fit. And good luck with finding some good bookshops. They are everywhere.
DeleteBooks set in bookshops always appeal to me as they probably do to most book lovers. Weirdly, though, I've only read one of these books—INKHEART. Several of the others are on my TBR list and there are a couple I hadn't heard of before. I'll definitely be checking those out!
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I'm not surprised you have read Inkheart, Susan, because that is probably closest to your heart. You would certainly also love The Shadow of the Wind and its sequels. Brilliant writing.
DeleteI very rarely go to a bookstore of any kind anymore, though I do regret not seeking out at least one in the cities I've traveled to. BUT, this twist is perfect and I see a couple new-to-me titles that I have to check out. Hope you have a great week and time to enjoy a good book.

Thanks, Terrie. I know what you mean with seeking out a bookshop while travelling. It doesn't always fit in with the plans of the people you travel with, at least that is my reason. Guess I will have to put my foot down in future, then I might be able to pick up this topic again. The original one, I mean.
DeleteI forgot about The Readers of Broken Wheel when I put my post together!

There are so many books about bookshops, Pam, it's easy to forget some. They don't all fit into the "Top Ten".
DeleteI did the same topic but with different results. It was fun to read your post.
ReplyDeleteThat's the beauty of it, isn't it, Deanna. We can all do the same topic but have completely different books. And I know some did the same twist which makes me think it was a logical thing to do. Thanks.
DeleteThis is such a popular and wonderful pivot for this week's topic. Seeing everyone's lists reminds me of how little I remember from books because some of the books I forgot about having bookshops, lol.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
You're right, Jenni. I was surprised to find it more often but it is probably the most logical twist.
