Top Ten Tuesday ~ New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2021

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2021. That's an easy one, I had them in my Statistics 2021.

So, here we go:
Barbery, Muriel "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" (F: L’Elégance du hérisson) - 2006
Elliot, Jason "An Unexpected Light. Travels in Afghanistan" - 1999
Harris, Kamala "The Truths We Hold. An American Journey" - 2019
Hetmann, Frederik "Dream sounds. or the longest fairy tale that ever existed" (GE: Traumklänge. oder das längste Märchen, das es je gab) - 2004
Kennel, Odile "What Ida says" (GE: Was Ida sagt) - 2011
Lee, Min Jin "Pachinko" - 2017
McLain, Paula "The Paris Wife" - 2012
Menasse, Robert "The Capital" (GE: Die Hauptstadt) - 2017
Singer, Isaac Bashevis "Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy" - 1983
Towles, Amor "A Gentleman in Moscow" - 2016

I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with.

  1. I really fell for the writing of Min Jin Lee and Amor Towles last year. I hope they now are busily writing their next books.

    1. I totally agree, Deb. I know Amor Towles has written more than just this one and they are all on my wishlist. And I just checked, there are also several from Min Jin Lee. So, we can look forward to reading more books by them, even if they never write another one (which would be a shame, of course).

  2. Great list, Marianne! I really enjoyed Pachinko and have another of Lee's books on my TBR that I'm hoping will be just as enjoyable! Also, I'm looking forward to hopefully finally reading Amor Towles this year :)

    1. Thanks, Dini. I'm looking forward to more of her books, as well. Which one is on your TBR pile? And you are the second person mentioning just these two authors. Enjoy your books.

    1. Thanks, Deanna. It was so interesting. I've read a few books by Ernest Hemingway before but this one made me realiye that there are many more that I still want to read. And if Paula McLain's other books are only half as good as this one, they are all worth reading.

    1. Definitely a good choice, Lindsey. We hear too little about that topic and Min Jin Lee has portrayed the characters so well. Happy Reading.

  5. I haven't read any of these authors, but I have been meaning to give both Towles and McLain a try. I've also heard great things about Min Jin Lee. If you're a fan of these writers, I definitely need to give them a go :)

    Happy TTT!

    1. I think you would like quite a few of them, Lark. Most people here have mentioned "Pachinko" and I think that is a book everyone would love.

  8. So cool you discovered Barbery.
Now you absolutely need to read A Single Rose - very different in genre and length (quite short). I think it's really my most favorite read of 2021: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3529245761?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1

    1. You're welcome, Cindy. I have seen so many lists the last couple of days with authors I had never even heard of, I'm not surprised not many have read those that I read especially since three of them are by German/Austrian authors that are hardly known across the border.
