Sachar, Louis "Holes" - 1998
Sachar, Louis "Small Steps" - 2006
Sachar, Louis "Stanley Yelnats' Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake" - 2003
A wonderful trilogy that I can only recommend to all parents for their children. Especially for boys who otherwise might not read as much or don't like to read (which luckily I could never say about mine who both were avid readers).

I've only read Holes, but I did think it was a good book. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether I'd have read the sequels if it weren't for my sons reading them at the time, Lark. And they are totally worth it.
DeleteI've not read the sequels but LOVE Holes. I did a DonorsChoose project a few years ago, to give my students a new book each month and this was one I chose. It's SO good. He's one of my fave kid lit authors.
ReplyDeleteAs I just said to Lark ^^, I might not have read the sequels if my boys hadn't loved the whole story so much. It was a good choice to give to students. I saw especially boys liking it very much, also those who didn't usually read a lot.
DeleteOn my way to check your reviews, never heard of this author.

He's a children's author, Emma. His "Wayside School" series is very famous and they made a movie out of this film. But I only know him through my kids and work in school. Still, he's great.
DeleteHi Marianne! Holes is the third book on my TBR and believe it or not, I STILL haven't read it yet...! I do always recommend it to the kids at school and I know it's not a thick book. Maybe I must just get to it and do a review for the school. Then my conscience is also cleared!
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know it is a trilogy. Ha. Even more to look forward to!
Elza Reads
The only reason I knew it was a trilogy is because we sold the books in our school book sale where I always helped out. We would always say we were our best customers. LOL. My kids benefitted from that a lot, as well.
DeleteYes, go ahead and read it, I'm sure it's so much nicer when you recommend it to the kids when you know what's in there. And this is one that even boys who are not such great readers might touch. Plus, it really is a quick read for us adults.
Enjoy and have a nice weekend, Elza.
