#ThrowbackThursday. Notes from a Small Island

Bryson, Bill "Notes from a Small Island" - 1995

This was my first experience with Bill Bryson. I fell in love with his humour and writing style right away. This is still my favourite book by him though I love them all and would be overwhelmed if he revoked his decision to stop writing.

We discussed this in our British book club in January 1999.

  1. I'm a huge Bill Bryson fan. My favorite is probably A Short History of Nearly Everything.

    1. That is also a fantastic book, Deb. I have learned so much from Bill Bryson. He has taught me more about science than all my teachers combined. Such a shame he decided to stop writing. I guess I'll have to reread all his books.

  2. I've only read 'One Summer – America 1927' which I thought was REALLY good. Not sure when I'll get around to reading anything else by him though.

    1. That was a really good book, Kitten, but by far not one of his best. He has written so many great books, I can't even begin to start listing them (well, just go to my link, they're all there, LOL). I'm sure you'll enjoy them just as much as I did.

    1. Same here, Lark. Even the more serious ones, he just can't stop making jokes. I know I'm not the only one who loves his books but it's always nice to hear again.

  4. I need to read this! I liked One Summer and A Walk in the Woods but I haven't read anything else by Bryson. His topics are right up my alley though.

  5. It's definitely worth reading all of his books, Lory. The ones you read were more about the States but he has written about so many other countries and he knows a lot about other stuff, science, history, language, an amzing guy. Enjoy every one of your reads.

  6. I also love Bill Bryson, but this is actually one I haven't read yet! Need to check it out for sure.

    1. Thanks, Elza's mom and Elza. ;) It's my favourite but I have lived in England, so I am probably a tad biased. However, if you love Bill Bryson, you will love any of his books.
