Book Quotes of the Week

"The library is inhabited by spirits that come out of the pages at night." Isabel Allende

Isn't that a lovely idea? And one that we can understand so well.

"Writing is its own reward." Henry Miller

So true. Whether it's a letter, a post for a blog or on a social network site or a book, I am sure the author of the book feels the same as anyone else who writes anything.

"There is so much more in those words than just loving books. I love the smell of them. I love the way their bindings look pressed together on a shelf. I love the feel of the pages buzzing through my fingers. I love big books and small books. I love words and how they’re strung together, and most of all, I love the stories. I love how books are not really books at all, but doorways." Ashley Poston,
Bookish and the Beast

Could it be said any better? I doubt it.

  1. One of my friends in particular laughs at me for buying physical books (he's not exactly a great reader himself) because Kindle books are often cheaper and, of course, can be with you instantly rather than waiting for them to be delivered. But I believe that *books* are, actually much, more than simply the text they contain. One word I use to describe the difference is 'heft'. Physical books have heft. Electronic versions do not.

Oh, I do so like books being described as 'doorways'. So TRUE.

    1. My sentiments exactly, Kitten. I wouldn't know how to put it any better. I like the word "heft" (which in German would mean notebook, LOL) Yes, books are really so much more than just their content. And what ebook has foldout maps etc.?

    1. Same here, Lectrice, comes just after cut grass and freshly brewed coffee. :) My son actually gave me a candle that smells of old books. Lovely.
