Golden, Arthur "Memoirs of a Geisha" - 1997
I have read this book twice - both times with a book club. The first time, I liked it, the second time, I enjoyed it even more.
This book shows the difference of Eastern and Western culture as well as
the changes in society during the couple of decades.
We discussed this in our British book club in May 1999 and in our international book club in October 2005.
Read my original review here.
Did you ever see the movie version of this book? And if so, was it good?
ReplyDeleteYes, I did. And yes, it was. Like always, it didn't contain everything but it was well done.
DeleteI loved this book - also read it with a book club. One of our members had been to Japan and seen Geishas in the street and studied about their history so she brought a new level of interest to the meeting that month.

That is always great, Terrie. We had a pretty international group and there were people who lived in Japan but, of course, this insight is something the ordinary visitor (even if it's for a couple of years) doesn't get to see. Great book in any case.
