Top Twelve Tuesday ~ Books on My Summer 2022 To-read List

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is Books on My Summer 2022 To-read List
(or winter for those in the southern hemisphere)

My winter list had twenty three books: TTTT today - Top Twenty-Three Tuesdays and I still have twelve on that list, so they will hopefully become my summer read. I always have them on top of my TBR lists but then there are challenges (like the classic one) where I need to get out another one, book club books that take precedence or beloved authors who bring out new books. Well, we all know the impediments that can hinder us to finish that list. So, we'll see what's happening during the next season.

Ackroyd, Peter "Dominion: The History of England from the Battle of Waterloo to Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Volume V" - 2018 (Goodreads)
Fallada, Hans "Every Man Dies Alone" (Jeder stirbt für sich allein) - 1947
Hawes, James "The Shortest History of Germany - A Retelling for Our Times" - 2017 (Goodreads)
Kazantzakis, Nikos "The Last Temptation of Christ" (Ο τελευταίος πειρασμός/O telefteos pirasmos) - 1951
Keller, Gottfried "Novellen" (Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe u.a.) "Novellas" (A Village Romeo and Juliet and others) - 1855/56
Körner, Torsten "In der Männer-Republik. Wie Frauen die Politik eroberten" (GE) [In the men's republic: how women conquered politcs] - 2020 (Goodreads)
Mandelstam, Ossip "The Din of Time" (Шум времени/Shum vremeni) - 1925
Némirovsky, Irène "La Proie" [The Prey] - 1938
Pamuk, Orhan "Manzaradan Parçalar: Hayat, Sokaklar, Edebiyat" (TR) [Pieces from the View: Life, Streets, Literature] (German translation: Der Blick aus meinem Fenster) - 2008 (Goodreads)
Sadat, Jehan (جيهان السادات Dschihan as-Sadat) "A Woman of Egypt" - 1987 (Goodreads)
Wickert, Ulrich "Frankreich muss man lieben, um es zu verstehen" (GE) [You have to love France to understand it] - 2017
Wood, Levison "Eastern Horizons. Hitchhiking the Silk Road" - 2017

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

  1. I think keeping your TBR on a short leash might be a better idea than hording them like I do!

Hope you get to all your books Marianne.

    1. Who says, I keep my TBR on a short leash, Mareli? LOL
No, honest, I have tones of books that I still want to read but I obviously can't put them all on a list. So, I keep those close that I intend to read next. But then there are new books, there is the book club etc. etc. I know I will never be able to finish all the books I have now. Maybe there is a place in heaven where we can carry on.

  2. Oh my, you have some good books on your summer reading list, Marianne. The Last Temptation of Christ is a book I've always wanted to read, Eastern Horizons: Hitchhiking the Silk Road sounds like a book I'd love, and I somehow I missed the Irène Némirovsky book.

    1. Thanks, Deb. I might read "La Proie" this month for Paris in July. We'll see.
And "Eastern Horizons" was recommended by a dear friend, it must be a good one.
Looking forward to seeing what's on your list.

    1. Thanks, Lydia. So do I. I am sure I will like most of them. I always say there is a reason why I buy a book.

    1. Thjanks, Aymee. I love reading various kinds of books, always make sure I don't read the same genre, time, country etc. at the same time. Makes it much more interesting.

  8. It can be hard juggling all the books you want to read, can't it? I really enjoyed A Woman of Egypt. It was a fascinating book. :)

    1. Yes, it can, Lark. Especially with book club books, Classics Club and other challenges in between. But I'll get there when I get there. Thanks.

    1. Thanks, Susan. I already said to Aymee, I love reading various kinds of books, always make sure I don't read the same genre, time, country etc. at the same time. Makes it much more interesting.

I'm happy to see you here again. Does that mean you have moved in and distributed most of your stuff?

    2. No, not yet! We're supposed to be out of this house in two weeks, but we're going to ask for another week just to give our contractor more time with the remodel. A few more weeks, then, and we'll be out. Crazy.

    3. I must have mixed up July with June and with you not posting, I was sure it was this month. But - as I said on your page - the closer you get, the more you want it to be over.
I wish you all the best. I know you can do it!!!

  10. I didn't realize The LAst Temptation of Christ was a book! Reminds me a little of the Robe, even though I'm sure they're vastly different books. I read the Robe recently and was quite moved by it.

    1. I picked it up from a shelf in the library (like the little free libraries), Greg. And I wasn't aware it had been made into a movie (though I had heard the title).
I have read several books about this topic and thought, this might be interesting.

  12. I should have looked back at my winter list to see what I have not read that was on that one, great idea. I hope you enjoy these when you get a chance to read them.
