Top Ten Tuesday ~ Books with Fall in the Title

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish".

It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week's topic is: Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time

I did this a while ago when we were supposed to do Bookish wishes. Mmmh, now I have to think about something else.

So, it's summer and I've done a post with books that have the word "summer" in the title, even if it doesn't always talk about summer. But autumn is my favourite season and it's not far off (though, this summer wasn't all that bad, not too hot). However, I couldn't find any books with autumn in the title, except for a German one which I have included. So, I thought about the American word for autumn and it's easier to find titles with "Fall", even though it is a different kind of fall most of these books talk about and that is probably the reason why I don't like using that word for my favourite season. And I found one about leaves.

Achebe, Chinua "Things Fall Apart" (The African Trilogy #1) - 1958

Chevalier, Tracy "Falling Angels" - 2001

Follett, Ken "Fall of Giants" - 2010

Gauck, Joachim (German President 2012-2017) "Winter im Sommer - Frühling im Herbst: Erinnerungen" [Winter in Summer, Spring in Autumn. Memories] - 2009 - (Goodreads)

Guterson, David "Snow Falling on Cedars" - 1994

Hannah, Kristin "Angel Falls" - 2000

Kadaré, Ismail "The Fall of the Stone City" (aka Chronicle in Stone) (Albanian: Darka e Gabuar) - 1971

MacDonald, Ann-Marie "Fall On Your Knees" - 1997

Oates, Joyce Carol "The Falls" - 2004

Truss, Lynne "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" - 2005

  1. I didn’t know autumn was your favourite season! I hope it’s wonderful for you this year.

    1. Thanks, Lydia. Yes, it is. I love the weather, the temperatures, the colours, everything. My birthday is also in autumn and I once read that many people prefer the season they are born in. Which one is yours?

  2. Autumn is my favorite season, too, though it never arrives here until almost November.

    1. Thanks, Deb. It depends here. Usually, it starts in September, my birth month. I often can't wait for it to start but in some months its worse than in others. When the summer's been too hot, we sometimes have to wait.

  3. Ooh fall is almost here- great pick! I've been curious about Ken Follett but haven't tried him yet.

    1. Thanks, Greg. Well, none of the books is really about autumn but since Americans call it fall, I found enough books for the list. LOL

I absolutely love Ken Follett. His books are large, I think that keeps many from him. My favourites are the "Pillars of the Earth" series but I also loved the century trilogy. Of course, he has written many shorter ones, crime stories mainly, but this is the kind of literature I prefer. Maybe you'd like to read some of his other ones?

  4. I wish I still lived somewhere with four seasons cos I do miss the cooler days of Autumn :) Fall of Giants is one of my favourite books (and the trilogy is one of my all-time faves). Great list!

    1. Aaaawww, Dini, that is lovely. I would definitely miss autumn. If there is an area that changes from spring into autumn and then back again, I'd love to move there but not having any different seasons, I doubt I oculd live with that. Summer is my least favourite.

I am about to start my next Pillars of the Earth book (A Column of Fire), so I'm looking forward to the next great read.

    1. Thanks, Jo. As I just said to Lydia ^^, my birthday is also in autumn and I once read that many people prefer the season they are born in. And I love everything about autumn, especially the temperature.

  6. Fall is my favorite season as well, although we really don't have it here in Arizona. Around December, our temperatures will finally cool down and we'll get a little crispness in the air. I love that, but I do wish I still lived somewhere where all the trees turn colors, the weather gets chilly, and the leaves fall off their branches. It's a magical season!

    Happy TTT!

    1. That's nice, Susan. What a shame you don't have autumn, I'd hate that. So, Arizona is out of the question for a place to live. LOL Though, you'd be nearby, so it does have its perks.

Anyway, I will try to enjoy autumn for you, as well. Thanks.

    1. Looks like we could start a club of autumn lovers, Lindsey. Maybe it's got to do with bookworms liking to go inside and crawl behind a book? Or the leaves??? Thanks for stepping by.

    1. Thanks, Cindy. We've not had such a hot summer as the years before which I'm grateful for, so it's not as bad that autumn hasn't started though I feel it in my bones that we will have cooler temperatures soon. Great.

I wouldn't call Kristin Hannah my favourite author but I've liked the books I read by her, so far. Which one is your favourite?

  9. Add me to the list of people who love autumn. It could be because my birthday is in October, or the leaves changing colors, or the fall fairs, or the crispness in the air, or maybe the fact the kids go back to school, or the return of my favorite sport (American) football. Yup, I love autumn

When you get the chance, I hope you stop over at my blog and take a read: https://readbakecreate.com/10-books-i-would-love-to-see-as-a-movie/

    1. I think you're number six, Pam. Isn't that fantastic. I just said to Lyndsey ^^, we should start a club. And I said that to various people already, my birthday is in autumn, that might be a reason. Also, I don't tolerate too hot temperatures.

I always enjoy going back to the posts of other bloggers, especially if they took the time to write here.

    1. You're number seven on the list of autumn lovers. Though, I should count myself, as well, so we're eight already, Poinsettia. LOL

    1. Thanks, Lark. I first thought I couldn't do it since autumn isn't in any of the titles. But I know enough Americans to know about "fall" and even though the books all talk about others "falls", I managed to find ten. Doesn't happen too often, that I only find ten, so I have to celebrate.

  13. Nice twist on the topic! One of my fav books with fall in the title (and actually takes place in fall...September is almost fall) is A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner.

    1. I never heard of that one, Carol, but I love Marigolds and once used that as my name in a chatoom since Momo and all its variotions was already taken.

And yes, 21 September is when autumn starts over here. I know some countries put it on a different date, probably because their temperatures are different but for me, that's the beginning of autumn, just in time for my birthday a week later. LOL
