Top Ten Tuesday ~ Good, Bad, Ugly

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is Books With an Adjective In the Title

What a great idea. I might take that up with different adjectives again but this time, I'm just using three different ones. The first thing that came to my mind when looking at the topic was "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". I have never seen that film but I think it is a great title. And yes, I know that one of the words in my titles is really used as an adverb but the word is still an adjective. Agreed? On the other hand, there are some other adjectives in all the titles: big and little.

Alcott, Louisa May "Good Wives" - 1869
Anam, Tahmima "The Good Muslim" - 2011
Brecht, Bertolt "The Good Person of Szechwan" (GE: Der gute Mensch von Sezuan) - 1938-40
Buck, Pearl S. "The Good Earth" (House of Earth Trilogy #1) - 1931
Ephron, Nora "I Feel Bad About My Neck And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman" - 2006
Fforde, Jasper "Lost in a Good Book" - 2002
McCall Smith, Alexander "The Good Husband of Zebra Drive" (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #8) - 2007
Oates, Joyce Carol "Big Mouth & Ugly Girl" - 2003
Trivizas, Eugene "The Three Little Wolves and The Big Bad Pig" - 1997
Wodehouse, P.G. "Very Good, Jeeves" (Jeeves #4) - 1930

Looking forward to the adjectves other bloggers have used.

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

  1. Great and fun list :) I have to admit that I only read the first and last books in Louisa May Alcott's Little Women (and the rest of the series), so I'm intrigued by Good Wives now ;)

    1. Well, Rae, you might have read them all. I learned that when Joey and Rachel in Friends read each other's favourite books. Joey read "Little Women" and then they talked about a part that is in "Good Wives". Those two are one book in the States. Which is funny. She was American and wrote them as four separate books but in the States they sell them as two whereas in the UK (and probably the rest of the world, they are published as four.

  5. I love Little Women - it's one of the sweetest and cosiest books EVER! I also have Lost In A Good Book but I'm not that tempted by it actually, though maybe I should give it a chance!

    1. Thanks, Z... You are right, Little Women is such a great story and it makes it even better knowing it is based on real life (though not a biography).

I had never read a Jasper Fforde book before but someone recommended "The Eyre Affair" and after that, I just wanted to read the sequel. It's funny and light, if you look for an in-between book, I can recommend it.

    1. I try, Lark, doesn't always work and I know some whose titles are a lot better than mine but it helps with my creativity if I think of a topic.

    2. I will get back to TTT...but I feel like I say that every week. And now that we are in the midst of competition season, I have even less time than usual (Eleanor is on a competition dance team at her studio).

    3. Don't worry, when the time is right for you, you will pick it up again. I've been toying with the idea to take a break since I seem to twist the topic all the time because I have done it several times. But it's just so much fun. And you post other stuff that is interesting, so I wouldn't worry about it. Life needs you, especially your daughter.

    1. Sorry, Susan, I have only just managed to find my "spam" posts and this one (plus a few others) were among them. I am sure you know I would not neglect you but here we are ... always these computer problems.

I'm glad you liked my twist.

    1. Thanks, Emma, I have just said to Sarah ^^ that I seem to twist the topic all the time lately.

And I'm not surprised you only read one of the books, there are soooo many books around and these are not necessarily representative for our usual reads. Maybe Tahmima Anam and Bertolt Brecht would be interesting for you.

  12. Ooh that's a good take on the prompt - it definitely helps to narrow it down, such a wide variety and so many books to choose from with an adjective in the title!

    1. Thanks, Brontë. I just happened to stumble upon "good" first and the rest was easy. And somehow I like to give my lists a subject. Not that it didn't already have one but one of my own. LOL

  13. I love the way you went with this! I just went with books I'd added to my TBR recently, but I love how you used adjectives to fit a theme.

    1. I think that is also a great idea, one of my blogger friends did that, as well, and I thought, that's great. Thanks for your link, Nicole.

    2. I knew I needed to come up with some way to narrow the list down, and I drew a blank on other, more creative ways to pick. :)

    3. But that's the beauty of it. We all have to narrow down those lists and it's fun to see how many different ways people come up with.

    1. Haha, thanks, Lectrice. I could have added "big" to the list but I haven't heard about a film called "The Big, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Maybe they make one. LOL
