Top Ten Tuesday ~ Top Ten Books with Food on their Covers

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week's topic is Halloween Freebie

I have done a Halloween TTT before (see here).
So, I'm going down the "Freebie" line.

Don't you think about food in the colder months? I know most people eat a lot more once the sun isn't there all the time and families gather for celebrations.

So, this is my topic this week. Books with food on their cover.

Collister, Linda; Berry, Mary; Hollywood, Paul "Great British Bake Off: How to Bake: The Perfect Victoria Sponge and Other Baking Secrets" - 2011

Eggels, Elle "The House of the Seven Sisters" (Dutch: Het Huis van de Zeven Zusters) - 1998

Grass, Günter "Peeling the Onion" (German: Beim Häuten der Zwiebel) - 2006

Harris, Joanne "Five Quarters of the Orange" - 2001

Johnson, Dr. Spencer "Who moved my cheese?" - 1998

Lanchester, John "The Debt to Pleasure" - 1996

Nicoletti, Cara "Voracious: A Hungry Reader Cooks Her Way through Great Books" - 2015

Prelutsky, Jack "A Pizza the Size of the Sun" - 1996

Şafak, Elif "Araf aka The Saint of Incipient Insanities" (Turkish: Araf) - 2004

Wodehouse, P.G. "The World of Jeeves" (Jeeves #2-4: The Inimitable Jeeves #2, Carry On, Jeeves #3, Very Good, Jeeves! #4) - 1923/1925/1930

This looks like an international feast, after all, there are British, American, Turkish, Dutch and German books. "Guten Appetit", as we say in German.

I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with. Do you have other books with food on the cover?

    1. I think we all do, Greg. It's probably because we need more fuel to get warm.

  3. I definitely ate a lot more when I lived somewhere cold! Ah, comfort food. I see Mary Berry's book on your list and I love Mary Berry! 😍

    1. So do I, Dini. I was sad when she left the Great British Bake-Off though I also love Prue. And your observation is completely true. When it's hot in the summer, I can just have a salad for the whole day and am happy.

  4. I've focused on the freebie part too this TTT week, and I'm totally on board with books with food on the covers. Ahem, they are "food for thought"! ;D Who moved my cheese -- an old landmark book, isn't it? I'm sorry to say I've still not read it, but one day I shall.

    1. That's great, Lex, looking forward to your post.

And yes, food for thought is a good comment. A lot of them have something with food in there, as well. Especially "Voracious" which is all about books with food.

Anyway, "Who moved my cheese?" is totally worth reading. Enjoy.

    1. Hahaha, Lisa, that wasn't my intention. But Pizza is always a good answer to hunger.

  7. Fun list! The only one of these book that I've read is Five Quarters of the Orange. And while it's not my favorite Joanne Harris book, I did like it.

    1. I'm glad you like the baked goods as much as I do, Susan. I love baking. When I lived in the UK, nobody baked except for me and another German friend and my English friends always said, oh, you Germans are so good ad baking. Now, after the Great British Bake-Off started, everyone seems to bake. I think that's great.

  14. I love Jack Prelutsky so much. A few years ago when I still had my own classroom, one of our reading rotations was called 'Poetry Slam'. Kids picked a poem and practiced all week. They could perform with a partner, sing, rap, whatever. We used his books a lot because they're just so much fun.

    1. That sounds great, Sarah. I am sure the kids had a lot of fun and you awakened some poetry and language lovers there.

    2. It was really inspiring to see how the kids chose to share their poems. It is one of my most favorite things I have ever done with my class. Especially because I had kids who would not really have exposure to poetry otherwise. I hope at least one of them found they loved the genre.

    3. I am sure they did and will remember you forever.

  15. These books look delicious! I eat a lot more during the fall and winter because that's when all the good holiday food shows up. I'm eating Halloween candy right now. :)

    1. That is so true, AJ, all the holidays don't help, LOL. Even if we plan not to repeat it, especially Christmas seems to be one feast day after the other where we eat enough for the whole year.

      Enjoy your Halloween candy.
