Top Ten Tuesday ~ Top Ten Humourous Books Written by Women

"Top Ten Tuesday" is an original feature/weekly meme created on the blog "The Broke and the Bookish". This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at "The Broke and the Bookish". It is now hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl.

Since I am just as fond of them as they are, I jump at the chance to share my lists with them! Have a look at their page, there are lots of other bloggers who share their lists here.

This week, our topic is Hilarious Book Titles

I have done "Funny Book Titles" before. And "Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud".

Since I don't read many books like that, I could either come up with the same titles as last year or start something completely new.

Whoever knows me, will guess correctly, I found a twist. I've listed a few humourous books written by women. Authors, comediennes, others. These are all funny books and luckily, most of them have written more than one book but I will include only one, either the first one they wrote or the first one I read. I hope you will find a few authors among them that you also like.

Brown, Rita Mae - The Hunsenmeir Trilogy (Six of One/Bingo/Loose Lips) - 1987/88/99

Ephron, Nora "I Feel Bad About My Neck And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman" - 2006 (short stories)

Fox, Kate "Watching the English: the Hidden Rules of English Behaviour" - 2004

Hanff, Helene "84 Charing Cross Road" - 1970

Khorsandi, Shappi "A Beginner's Guide to Acting English" - 2009

Perkins, Sue "Spectacles" - 2015

Roach, Mary "My Planet. Finding Humor in the Oddest Places" - 2013

Russell, Helen "The Year of Living Danishly: My Twelve Months Unearthing the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country" - 2015

Scott, Mary "Breakfast at Six" - 1953

Truss, Lynne "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" - 2005

I hope you find a few books among them that you will also like.

📚 Happy Reading! 📚

  3. I've heard of a few of these titles! I definitely would like to read a book by Nora Ephron at some point but 84 Charing Cross Road is also quite high up on my TBR! Great list, Marianne :)

    1. Great, Dini. I can recommend anything by Nora Ephron, this is just one of her many books I read. And Charing Cross is such a beautiful story about the love of books. Real life.

  6. I've read an Nora Ephron book and it was okay. I haven't read 'I feel bad..' I do find her funny but I think I like her movies better.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. Well, her movies are definitely great, Lissa. I'm sorry you didn't care much for the book you read, I hope you still will try a few of her others.

  12. I had the same problem with this prompt. I just don't read funny books, apparently. Case in point: I haven't read anything from any of the authors on your list. Roach is one I've been meaning to read for ages, though. I have a copy of STIFF; I just need to actually read it.

    Happy TTT!

    1. I find many lists where I haven't read a single one and sometimes I end up reading them all. So, maybe choose one, Cindy. But I warn you, you might want to read them all.

  14. Hanff's book humorous? Funny, I don't remember that aspect.
I may need to read it again. I'm discovering so much humor in most classics I'm rereading.

    1. You are right, Emma. It's certainly as humourous as some of the other books on the list, it wasn't written to be funny but I believe it deserves a space here.

  15. I've heard such great things about some of these books. I'm glad to hear they're humorous. :D

  16. It is popular these days with long titles it seems. I have only read 84 ... and loved it. Otherwise, I seldom read 'funny' books, mostly because I don't think they are funny. Probably says more about me than the books. But there are exceptions, although I cannot think of anyone for the moment.

    1. So true, Lisbeth. Especially with long titles. And I often doubt whether the books are really as funny as the title promises. I don't always find them funny, either, and that is not the main goal why I read them. I even once read a book where the author herself said she didn't find it funny and yet they described it that way.
